Software Instrument
Our first task was to build a software instrument using PD, MSP, or Csound. I opted for Max/MSP. I wanted to create a keyboard keyboard, meaning the keyboard of the computer would become the electric keyboard. The "A" key would correspond to the A pitch, or 440Hz, "B" with B, and so on. After a lot of copying and emulating I figured out how to trigger the keyboard action. The challenge was separating the different pitches and making them sound different. In the end I did get the keys to trigger different noises, but those noises aren't very pleasant sounding. The other issue with the instrument is that you cannot play two keys at the same time, because once you start playing a new one the first automatically stops.
